+ A familiar interior with a relaxed atmosphere. The biggest plus was the chef's ambition in creating some quite innovative dishes while still maintaining a focus on Sicilian culinary culture.

- Some dishes were disappointing flavorwise and did not suit our taste. As an example, we love desserts, but unfortunately, the sesame cake and ice cream that we had did not really appeal to us

Price we paid Approximately 250 euros, including the wine pairing which was around 90 euros.

Accursio restaurant offers  a modern twist on Sicilian cuisine with fresh seafood, homemade pasta, and local flavors. The restaurant lies below ground and is quite small with just a few tables. This gives the restaurant a kind of familiar and warm ambiance.

Modica itself is a picturesque city with narrow streets and charming alleys. It is nestled in the Hyblaean Mountains, and is known for its Baroque architecture and stunning landscapes. Its historic center, Modica Alta, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with intricately designed buildings and churches.

The town of Modica itself was worth a visit. Their renowned chocolate was delicious  and the landscape was beautiful and fairy tale-like.  We spent the day in the town while waiting for the highlight of our trip –the Michelin-starred restaurant, Accursio.

Some of the dishes at Accursio restaurant were very nicely presented and almost dreamlike.We were welcomed with a small drink (a sort of Gin and Tonic) that contained an oyster, which you were supposed to shot. The shot  was indeed surprisingly good and brought that feeling of being near the  sea, even high up in the Sicilian mountains.


Most of the dishes were presented beautifully) and it was an interesting experience to enjoy Sicilian food with a modern touch e. The service was at times very good but in our view it was uneven and some waiters did not reach that level that you can expect from a Michelin restaurant. Unfortunately, the desserts did not keep the level we had hoped for. The appearance was creative, butt the flavors took a backseat.

Favourite dish

Our favorite dish (yes, we all agree) was the incredibly beautiful emulsion of sea and land served on a perfectly fitting plate. The dish was delicious, just like our memory of it.

Worst dish

The dish we liked the least was one of the desserts that aimed to resemble an egg. And indeed, the dessert looked exactly like an egg. However we found it quite disappointing that the shell itself was an actual eggshell that you couldn't eat.

Summary

As always, it is difficult to summarize a visit to a Michelin restaurant. Although not every dish received top marks from us, the location of the restaurant was beautiful and some of the chef's creations as well. Some say that "goodness lies in simplicity," and Accursio served us seemingly simple dishes that were complex upon contemplation. We hope we can return to Accursio again in the future.
